Czech children's literature at the IJB

"Sauber abg’czeckt!" A reading with Ondřej Buddeus (Kopie 1)

Jella-Lepman-Haal

From 13 to 16 July 2026, the International Youth Library will become a hub for contemporary Czech children’s literature: guests include author Ondřej Buddeus and illustrator Magdalena Rutová, who will be bringing stories and pictures of bicycles, octopuses and people.

In readings and workshops for school groups and families, Ondřej Buddeus will present his award-winning non-fiction children’s book “Fahr Rad!” – an informative and enthusiastic declaration of love for the bicycle. With humour, knowledge and detailed illustrations, the book tells the story of the bicycle, its technology and why cycling gives many people a sense of freedom. Afterwards, children can have their own bikes spruced up and checked over in a mobile bike workshop.

Programme:

09.00 – 10.15 am    Reading for school classes by Ondřej Buddeus (Jella-Lepman-Saal)

10.15 am – 12.00 pm     ‘Bike Check' by Mobilitätsreferat München and Bike Make Over with Verena Kandler

The project is part of Czechia 2026. It is taking place in cooperation with the Czech Literary Centre and the Czech Centre Munich.
