Czech children's literature at the IJB
"Sauber abg’czeckt!" A reading with Magdalena Rutová
From 13 to 16 July 2026, the International Youth Library will become a hub for contemporary Czech children’s literature: guests will include author Ondřej Buddeus and illustrator Magdalena Rutová, who will be bringing stories and pictures of bicycles, octopuses and people.
Magdalena Rutová will present her original picture book ‘The Octopus Diary’. In it, a curious octopus sets off into the human world – because he is amazed by all the ‘beautiful’ things that end up in the sea. With humour and unusual perspectives, the book invites readers to reflect on consumption, the environment and the use of resources. In creative waste workshops, children work with the illustrator to develop their own ideas for a more responsible approach to our environment.
Open Workshop for kids age 6 and up: 15 July, 3pm
Free of charge!

The project is part of Czechia 2026. It takes place in cooperation with the Czech Literary Centre.
