Czech children's literature at the IJB
"Sauber abg’czeckt!" A reading with Magdalena Rutová
From 13 to 15 July 2026, the International Youth Library will become a hub for contemporary Czech children’s literature: guests include author Ondřej Buddeus and illustrator Magdalena Rutová, who will be bringing stories and pictures of bicycles, octopuses and people.
Magdalena Rutová presents her original picture book *The Kraken’s Diary*. In it, a curious octopus sets off into the human world – because he is puzzled by all the ‘beautiful’ things that end up in the sea. With humour and unusual perspectives, the book invites readers to reflect on consumption, the environment and the use of resources. In creative waste workshops, children work with the illustrator to develop their own ideas for a more responsible approach to our environment.
