Yokota-Teale-Collection
The Yokota Teale Collection comprises about 3000 English language books for children and young people from the collection of the American professor couple William Teale and Junko Yokota. After the death of William Herbert Teale (1947-2018), Professor of Literacy, Language & Culture and Director of the Chicago Center for Literacy at the University of Illinois, Junko Yokota, Professor Emeritus at the National College of Education of the National Louis University Chicago, bequeathed this collection to the International Youth Library.
In addition to numerous picture books, novels for children and young people, children's poetry, translations of international fairy tales, bilingual editions and literature with intercultural themes, including indigenous cultures, it contains children's and young people's non-fiction books on topics such as art, nature, countries of the world, gender and environmental issues.
This representative cross-section of high-quality English-language children's and youth literature from around 1970 to 2018 is an enrichment of the International Youth Library's book collection.
The collection is continuously catalogued and can be searched in the OPAC under the shelfmark: TYC*.
