The exceptionally valuable and comprehensive collection of Hamburg teacher and collector Horst Mischke contains about 7,000 illustrated children’s and young adult books of the 18th to early 20th centuries, selected for their pedagogical value. The Collection, which the International Youth Library acquired in 1998, places particular focus on ABC books and primers, picture books, children’s songs and children’s magazines. The Collection has an international orientation, in comparison to other private German collections.
