Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen

In June 1998, the first volume of Joanne K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" novels was published in German. "Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen", launched with a first print run of just 8,000 copies, soon captivated young readers. With the publication of each new volume, the fan community grew until, in 2000, the "Harry Potter" fever gripped Germany and more or less everyone who could read devoured the stories about Harry, Ron, Hermione and their fight against the powerful wizard Lord Voldemort at Hogwarts. Queues formed outside bookshops whenever a new volume came on the market. 

In a cabinet exhibition, we recall the first edition of "Harry Potter" in Germany and how the novel became a bestseller here. On display alongside book editions, offprints and newspaper articles are original illustrations and sketches by Sabine Wilharm, the illustrator of the German "Harry Potter" covers, as well as merchandising articles from the late 1990s, which were made available to us by the former German "Harry Potter" publisher Klaus Humann, 

The exhibition will open on 11 June with a family event.
