Writing workshop on the theme of ‘multilingualism’ with author Pierre Jarawan

SHOW ME, HOW YOU TALK AND I TELL YOU WANT I AM DREAMING OF.

Language is far more than a tool for communication – it shapes our perceptions, our memories and our imagination. Many children and young people today grow up with several languages, dialects or different linguistic worlds. What often seems like a challenge in everyday school life holds enormous creative potential.

This writing workshop invites pupils to discover their linguistic diversity as a strength and to use it for creative writing. Drawing on their own experiences, they create poems, short texts and playful linguistic experiments that demonstrate how every language opens up new images, sounds and perspectives.

Using methods from creative writing pedagogy and spoken word practice, participants explore language in unfamiliar ways: they translate untranslatable words, invent metaphors, write using all their senses, play with ambiguities, or bring different languages together in a single text. No prior knowledge is required – the focus is on curiosity, a willingness to experiment and a love of writing.

The workshop boosts linguistic confidence, opens up new approaches to literature and creates a supportive space in which different linguistic backgrounds are not standardised, but rather brought to the fore. This results in texts that are as diverse as the people who write them.
