Sauber abg'czeckt! Czech Children’s Literature Week

From 14 to 16 July 2026, the International Youth Library will become a hub for contemporary Czech children’s literature: 
The guests will be the popular author Ondřej Buddeus and the multi-award-winning illustrator Magdalena Rutová, who will be bringing stories and pictures of bicycles and octopuses with them.

In readings and workshops for school classes and families, Ondřej Buddeus will present his award-winning non-fiction children’s book "Fahr Rad!" – an informative and enthusiastic declaration of love for the bicycle. With humour, knowledge and richly detailed illustrations, the book tells the story of the bicycle, its technology and why cycling gives many people a sense of freedom. Afterwards, children can have their own bikes spruced up and checked in a mobile bike workshop run by Munich’s Department of Mobility. For children aged 7 and over.

Magdalena Rutová presents her original picture book "Das Kraken-Tagebuch": A curious octopus sets off into the human world – because he is puzzled by all the ‘beautiful’ things that end up in the sea. With humour and unusual perspectives, the book invites readers to reflect on consumption, the environment and the use of resources. In creative workshops, children work alongside the illustrator to develop their own ideas for a more responsible approach to our environment. For children aged 6 and over.
