Recommendation of Ines Galling / IYL

"Poetry recommendations 2024" now also available for children

Now published!

The "Poetry Recommendations" for adult readers have been published annually since 2013. From 2024, there will now also be "Poetry recommendations for children"!
A group of experts will put together a selection of eleven titles aimed at a reading audience between the ages of three and eleven. For this year's recommendations, German-language and translated available titles from 2020 to 2023 will be considered. The eleven selected books were announced on World Poetry Day, March 21, 2024.

All titles, events and information are available at www.lyrik-empfehlungen.de.
The recommended poetry books can be found in over two hundred bookshops and libraries throughout Germany, and there are many events with the authors. Educational material for teaching poetry is available for download. The International Youth Library offers accompanying poetry workshops for school classes (2nd to 4th grade) with poetry teacher and poetry slammer Meike Harms. All titles will also be available to borrow from the Children's Library (KiBi).

The "Poetry recommendations for children" are accompanied by the HaiKuh. The lyrical mascot was created as part of a poetry workshop: One of the participating children made up his own rhyme for the term "haiku", the name of the traditional Japanese poetry form. The Frankfurt illustrator duo von Zubinski brought the imaginary creature to life with their drawings.

The "Poetry Recommendations for Children" are a cooperation project between theGerman Academy for Language and Poetry, the International Youth Library Foundation, the Poetry Cabinet Foundation, the House of Poetry, the German Library Association and the German Literature Fund.
