Lesen, Reden, Mitbestimmen - Bilderbuchkoffer für Demokratie

The International Youth Library starts a project to promote political education amongst primary school pupils. The ‘Picture Book Kits for Democracy’ are now available for primary school teachers in Germany to borrow for the duration of a school term.

The kit contains teaching resources and twelve books that illustrate children’s rights and human rights, as well as negotiation processes and the democratic principles of participation and compromise, in a child-friendly, humorous and illustrative way. The programme is aimed at educational institutions across Germany. The teaching resources are specifically tailored for use during the “Verfassungsviertelstunde” (‘Constitution Quarter-Hour’) which is compulsory in i.e. Bavaria from Grade 2 onwards.
