"The White Ravens" Panel
Black White Grey. Picture books without colours
This year's "The White Ravens" panel is dedicated to picture books that make do without colours. These have become increasingly popular on the international book market in recent years. By using lines, surfaces, shapes and contrasts, illustrators create expressive images that have a unique aesthetic and achieve a fascinating effect. In 2023, the International Youth Library presented the wide range of black, white and grey picture books in an inhouse exhibition that is now offered as a travelling exhibition.
The panel discussion in Bologna will focus on the manifold possibilities, the special appeal and the challenges of creating "uncoloured" picture books.
