A Conversation with the Iranian-American Author Abdi Nazemian
Queer – Banned – (but never to be) Trumped
Abdi Nazemian, queer Iranian-American producer, screenwriter, and author of young adults novels is passionate about telling diverse stories that reflect the breadth of human experience. His award-winning novels – such as “Like a Love Story” set in New York City in the 1980s during the AIDS crisis, or “Only This Beautiful Moment”, an intergenerational story about three men in an Iranian-American family – focus on love, family, and queer identity. No easy feat in a world where homosexuality is still illegal in some countries – e.g. his birth country Iran – and LGBTQ voices are increasingly silenced in the US and many other parts of the world.
Moderator: Claudia Söffner, Internationale Jugendbibliothek
The conversation will be held in English (with German translation).
