German-Chinese reading for the Chinese New Year
Now the spring wind warms the New Year
To mark the Chinese New Year, we are collaborating with the Chinese Consulate General to host a reading for children and families. A poem about Chinese New Year and a picture book story from China will be read aloud in German and Chinese. The beautifully illustrated texts will be presented as a picture book cinema alongside the reading using a projector.
The picture book reading is themed around loyal friendship and a love of nature, touchingly told in the poetic animal story “The Little Cicada and the Old Ox” by Cao Wenxuan, illustrated by the internationally acclaimed illustrator Britta Teckentrup.
Cao Wenxuan is the only Chinese author to have been awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Medal, the “Nobel Prize for Children's Literature.” Britta Teckentrup's vibrant illustrations transport children and adults alike to the imaginary setting of this story, in which a little cicada saves the life of an old stubborn ox, and that is the beginning of a wonderful friendship...
Poems and stories from China will be recited in German and Chinese. For anyone interested in Chinese children's literature and culture.
No knowledge of Chinese is required.
