Deconstruct Antisemitism

Educational Project

A creative educational project by the International Youth Library Foundation

While the conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate, Jewish life in Germany is becoming increasingly threatened by insults, harassment and a growing willingness to use violence, as demonstrated by the increase in attacks on Jewish institutions. Jewish schools and synagogues have had to be guarded for years. And the situation has worsened. What role do media images and codes play in the rise of anti-Semitism in our society? And what can and do we want to do about it?

The four-day educational project ‘Deconstruct Antisemitism’ aims to sensitise young people to traditional antisemitic conspiracy narratives and recurring antisemitic image narratives and codes. Using methods of anti-Semitism-critical prevention work with young people and creative approaches from literary mediation, young people will engage with the history of anti-Semitism from the beginnings of Christianity to current manifestations of Israel-related anti-Semitism. Djina Krecic from the Amadeu Antonio Foundation Berlin will uncover common anti-Semitic narratives in discussions and interactive exercises with the young people. In order to subsequently process and deepen the newly conveyed knowledge emotionally, the young people develop a performance under the guidance of writing and dance teacher Lena Scholle.

Instructors:

Djina Krecic, head of ju:an Praxisstelle Antisemitismus- und rassismuskritische Jugendarbeit at Amadeu Antonio Stiftung

Lena Scholle, freelance cultural educator dance and creative writing

The final presentation of the project will take place on 27 January 2025, 7 pm at the Literaturhaus München as part of the ‘Literary Week against Anti-Semitism’.
