From Marrakesh to Bagdad - Illustrations from the Arab World

From Marrakesh to Bagdad

Illustrations from the Arab World

The exhibition invites visitors on a pictorial journey that leads from Egypt and Sudan via Syria to Lebanon and Iraq. While “travelling”, visitors can discover an illustration scene that is largely unknown in Germany and outside of the artists’ home countries.

On display are works by eight Arab illustrators from the past 15 years that give a vivid impression of the awareness of tradition, but also of the modernity and independence of current children's book illustration in the Arab world.

Participating artists:
Fadi Adleh, Said Baalbaki, Salah Elmur, Simar Halwany, Hanane Kai, Walid Taher, Intelaq Mohammed Ali, Hassan Zahreddine

Content of the exhibition:
100 original illustrations and prints. Panels with introduction and illustrator portraits. About 20 picture books

Available upon request: 40 frames (format: 60 x 80 cm) for the illustrations and an installation by the artist Walid Taher

An information brochure in German was published to accompany the exhibition. It contains  a selection of coloured illustrations, portraits of the illustrators, and bibliographical information for the books.

Picture books in various languages. Introductory text, short biographies and brochure available in German. Translation upon request
