Wolf – Role expectations – Fairy tale – Parody

When Wolf Terrible comes home from his day’s work (spreading fear and fright), unpleasant news await him: “Your nephew is terribly gentle”, his sister is complaining into the phone. No problem, it is best if he himself fixes the little ill-bred fellow! As soon as young Feliz appears on his doorstep a few days later, the pedagogically ambitious uncle begins his treatment: Horrible howling, scaring the living daylights out of people, wiping out cute little critters, outwitting innocent girls in the woods, donning disguises and deceivingly dissimulating his voice. The all-round curriculum proves hopeless, however, because the nephew truly is simply friendly, well-mannered, communicative, and peace-loving. Confronted with so much incorrigible “bad behavior”, the poor uncle finally capitulates. This book for beginning readers engages in clever and tongue-in-cheek play with fairytale patterns and stereotypes. The hilarious text and the humorous water-colour illustrations join forces in staging a wonderfully quick-witted story. (Age: 6+)
