What time is, what it means and which philosophical ideas are connected with it are topics to be pondered for a long time. For children such reflections are not always easy to follow, so it is all the more appealing to consider temporal phenomena and time riddles imaginatively and playfully. Adina Rosetti succeeds in making terms like “yesterday”, “today”, “tomorrow”, “never” and “sometime” or “back then” more concrete so that they may find their way into children’s understandings. She does so by embedding questions and answers about time in a fairytale story. The protagonist, the Great Time Magician, together with his family and his helpers, conjures the abstract time-terms and directs their actions in a universe of its own. After various schemes and adventures unfold and time gets thrown completely out of sequence, everything ends up back in its right place. Cristiana Radu enhances this entertaining story with many imaginative colour illustrations. (Age: 5+)
