Daybreak – Night – Bedtime – Picture book

This cardboard book’s pages are intentionally thin, making them easy to leaf through. It creates the chance for young readers to be told a wonderful story by attentive, informed adults – a story of the wonders which repeat themselves day after day, which stay the same and yet are different, which are awe-inspiring yet also comforting. A day begins, darkness becomes light, light stays its course, and then bids farewell, letting night take over once more. As day and night transition into one another, daily events, declarations of love and discoveries unfold. The text of the book is very brief, but only few words are needed. The pictures accompanying the poetic text come from Ligurian illustrator Philip Giordano. Their charm lies in the graphic reduction to a few simple shapes and colours, which are then carefully combined. (Age: 4+)
