Grandin, Temple – Autism – Animal psychology – Biography – Non-fiction

In words and pictures, this book tells the story of Temple Grandin (b. 1947), a professor of animal science at the University of Colorado. Despite being autistic, she has succeeded in overcoming innumerable difficulties to reach her goals. At the time of Grandin’s birth, autism was a new label for an inexplicable illness. Her mother, a great ally in Grandin’s life, as well as an especially attentive teacher, helped her succeed at school, making it possible for her to complete a doctorate in psychology and a master’s degree in animal science. Animals stand at the center of her life, and their manner of perceiving the world form the inspiration for her research. Temple Grandin is internationally known for her research on animals farmed for meat, and particularly for the methods she developed to help improve their living conditions. (Age: 11+)
