Love – Reality – Fiction – Fairy-tale novel
In a kingdom of legend a cruel king seeks to end his younger brother Iliån’s life. Both love the same woman, the fairy Oliå, who has given her heart to Iliån. Iliån is exiled to Earth, and the fairy secretly follows him to his involuntary exile. She can never show herself to her beloved again, but she will protect him. In subsequent adventure-filled years, Iliån ends up in France in the 1930s and desperately searches for a “portal” back to his home, back to his beloved whom he believes to still be there. While on the Earth he is continually pursued by his brother’s murderous henchmen. This expressive novel by Timothée de Fombelle artfully weaves together three narrative threads into one exciting love story. It is a challenging leisure-time read. Especially the parts taking place within the fairytale setting are outstanding. (Age: 13+)
