Seasons – Poetry
Paul B. Janeczko is a renowned poet and anthologist. For his latest collection, he has gathered thirty-six short American poems from two centuries and arranged them thematically so that each of the works captures an aspect or breathes the atmosphere of one of the four seasons. In addition to a few well-known classics such as William Carlos Williams’s “The Red Wheelbarrow” and Carl Sandburg’s “Fog”, readers will also discover a splendid array of lesser known gems that all, with just a few words, create powerful images. Award-winning illustrator Melissa Sweet uses watercolours, gouache, and mixed-media collages to create a visual feast. Some of her large-format double- and single-spread pictures are brimming with delicate pastel-coloured details, while others feature bright blocks of colour in a more abstract depiction of a certain mood. The harmonious pairing of texts and illustrations makes this collection a treasure for readers of any age. (Age: 4+)
