Fairy tale – Parody – Storytelling

The supposed folktale mentioned in the book’s title is short, extremely short, in fact it is only two sentences long: “This is the story of Victòria the cow. The cow dies ... end of story”, the laconic report states. This is really only the beginning, though, and Nono Granero takes off from there. The book’s leading question is: How did Victòria die? Brief rhymes offer lively conjecturing: Was it due to exhaustion, weight loss, pneumonia, an insect bite, an udder infection? And if this were the case – the story would not be a fairy tale, but a legend, a poem, a story. And what if Victòria had been a fish? The book makes amusing use of imaginative and narrative possibilities. All is allowed, all is conceivable, and each variation produces a new, very different story. The variations are portrayed in comic-like illustrations that parody quotes from the media and from art history. (Age: 5+)
