Dove breeding | Competition | Siblings

Dove-cooing competitions are much loved in South West Asian countries, especially in Thailand. Being too poor, Soojin, a Thai boy, can’t afford to raise doves, but he still dreams of it. One day, he finds an injured dove and calls her Mai Jong. He takes care of the animal and nurses it back to health. Then he practices daily with his dove for the next big competition, where a considerable amount of prize money is at stake. Will Mai Jong persevere with her voice over the other contestants? Will Soojin be able to heal his little sister Chutima with the award money?

Inviting the reader to an unusual vertical read, this book artfully combines the delicate and minimalist text of French poet François David with the dreamlike pictures of Italian illustrator Brunella Baldi. (Age: 5+)
