Fourteen-year old Loló is having a difficult time because of her poor
health. At first she (and reader) suspect that she could be pregnant, but
instead the diagnosis turns out to be diabetes. This novel describes how
Loló, her family and her boyfriend learn to deal with the news and adjust to
the chronic illness. The well-structured, unspectacular narrative takes the
various perspec-tives of the main characters. The author, highly successful
in Portugal, is able to deal with the topic of illness in children and young
adults in a natural and uninhibited manner. (12+)
