Miguel lives on an estate where his father earns the family’s meager

to school instead. He is used by Nelson as a courier for love-letters and
experiences his own first love experience with Lindinha, the daughter of his
patron. In a clear, gentle language, sensitive but not sentimental, the author
depicts Miguel’s at times painful and saddening experiences at the end of
