Everyday life – School
The debut of author Thys Wadman consists of a collection of stories, in
which Tido tells his adventures; some of which are small, others somewhat
larger. Tido is a fairly naïve, at times clumsy and day-dreaming boy who
lives in a small Frisian town. There are a lot of things going on in his
life and often things do not go as planned. The stories are told in an
appealing way, featuring a lot of dialogue and with a surprising and
humorous end. The thoughts of the boy are very mature at times, but will
resonate with young readers. There also is a dumb bully called Jetse, whose
character is given more depth when he is grieving about his colourful
drawing having been destroyed by the rain. All of the stories can be read
separately, with Tido as the main character in every story. (Age: 10+)
